Every jar of Seamoss.ae gel starts nearly 12,000 km away, on the rocky coasts of a small Caribbean island. Here's the journey our sea moss takes before it reaches your fridge, and why we do it this way.
Why Saint Lucia?
Saint Lucia is a volcanic island in the eastern Caribbean, surrounded by clear, mineral-rich water. Sea moss has grown wild along its coasts for generations, and local families have harvested and eaten it for just as long. We chose Saint Lucia because the sea moss there grows naturally in the open ocean, which is what "wildcrafted" means, rather than being farmed in pools or tanks.
Step 1: Harvested by hand
Our sea moss is collected by hand by local Saint Lucian fishermen. We work with them directly, in partnership with the Government of Saint Lucia, and the harvesting is supervised by the island's fisheries department. Buying this way means the fishermen are paid fairly and the sea moss is gathered in a way that lets it grow back.
Step 2: Cleaned and sun-dried
Once harvested, the sea moss is washed and laid out to dry under the Saint Lucian sun for several days. Sunlight gently lightens most of it to the golden colour of our Gold sea moss. Purple and green sea moss are dried away from direct sun to keep their natural colour.
Step 3: Shipped to Dubai
The dried sea moss travels from Saint Lucia to the UAE. Drying keeps it stable for the journey, so nothing needs to be added to preserve it.
Step 4: Lab-tested in the UAE
Sea moss absorbs minerals from the water it grows in, so we have it lab-tested in the UAE. Our company, Eco Earth FZ LLC, is ISO 22000-certified for food safety and accredited by the IAS.
Step 5: Made fresh to order in Dubai
This is where it becomes gel. When you place an order, we soak the dried sea moss, rinse it and blend it in small batches in our Dubai kitchen, using only sea moss, alkaline water and fresh lime. For our 20+ infused flavours, we blend in real fruit or spices. There are no preservatives.
Step 6: Delivered chilled to your door
Your gel is delivered chilled across the UAE within 2–3 working days. Keep it in the fridge and it lasts about 2–3 weeks, depending on the flavour.
Why we do it this way
We started Seamoss.ae in 2021 to bring fresh Saint Lucian sea moss to the UAE, made the way it's eaten in the Caribbean rather than shipped in a jar with a long shelf life. Making it here in Dubai means you get gel that's days old, not months.
